Full Description

These requirements cover permanently installed devices, hereafter referred to as dimmers, that employ a dimming function intended for control of lighting loads of theballast, transformer, or tungsten-filament type, and are intended to be installed in a wallbox or are provided with an enclosure for flush or surface mounting inaccordance with the Canadian Electric Code, Part 1 (CEC), and the National Electrical Code (NEC), ANSI/NFPA 70.

These requirements cover devices, other than touch dimmers, rated 600 volts ac or less, and touch dimmers rated 120 volts ac or less, all for installation on a20-ampere or less branch circuit.

These requirements cover dimmers, including touch dimmers, having a minimum power rating of 300 W or 300 volt-amperes, and a maximum power rating of 2000W or 2000 volt-amperes in increments of 50 watts or 50 volt-amperes.

A device incorporating other functions (for example, speed control) in addition to a dimming function is investigated on the basis of compliance with the applicablerequirements for the dimming function in this Standard as well as requirements for the other functions in the applicable standards.

These requirements do not cover dimmers that use only a resistor or a transformer to perform the dimming function.

These requirements do not cover modular, cabinet or console type constructions.

A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those in use when the Standard was developed, and thatinvolves a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, shall be evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements as determinednecessary to mai ntain the level of safety for the user of the product as originally anticipated by the intent of this Standard.
