1.1 These requirements cover household motor-operated foodpreparing machines and kitchen accessories such as knifesharpeners and can openers, that are intended to be operated forshort-periods of time resulting in cumulative use-time per year of lessthan 100 hours and that are for use in accordance with the NationalElectrical Code.

1.2 In the following text, a requirement that applies to one type ofequipment coming within its scope, such as a blender, or mixer will beso identified by a specific reference in that requirement to the type ofequipment involved. In the absence of such specific reference or if theterm appliance is employed, it is to be understood that the requirementapplies to all of the types of equipment covered by the standard.

1.3 These requirements cover cord-connected and permanently wiredmotor-operated appliances rated at a nominal 120 V includingappliances supplied by low-voltage power supplies, andbattery-operated appliances provided with battery chargers.

1.4 These requirements cover appliances for household use. Therequirements for motor-operated commercial food preparingmachines, UL 763, is employed for the evaluation of appliances alsointended for commercial application.

1.5 This standard does not cover sanitation, contamination, or noiseaspects of these products. Reference to these items can be found inthe Standard for Food, Drug and Beverage Equipment, ANSI/ASMEF2.1-1986.

1.6 An appliance employing a heating element is judged on the basis ofits compliance with the requirements of this Standard, insofar as theyapply and further appropriate requirements applicable to householdcooking appliances.
