IEEE P2066
IEEE Approved Draft Guide for Safety Specification of Laser Transmission in High-Power Industrial Laser System
standard by IEEE, 03/08/2022
Full Description
Scope
This guide recommends safety measures to protect against effects caused exclusively by thermal, opto-mechanical and related effects in passive optical components and optical cables used in Class IV high power industrial laser systems. This guide is not applicable for use in explosive environments.
Purpose
This guide is to establish a safety code for people who design, operate or maintain a high-power laser system, so as to protect both people and machines from possible damages.
Abstract
New IEEE Standard - Active - Draft. This guide recommends safety measures that should be taken to help keep passive optical elements and optical fiber cables used in high power industrial laser systems from being affected by optical, opto-machines and related effects. The guide is intended to be used by laser system manufacturers, installers and service providers and end-users. The purpose is to help reduce the possibility of injury by reducing radiation risks and to improve control of the laser radiation hazards through protective features of laser transmission systems.
