1. Scope

1.1

This Standard specifies performance requirements and related test procedures used to evaluate fluorescent lamps intended for general service applications.

1.2

This Standard includes performance requirements for (a) lamp efficacy; and (b) colour-rendering index (CRI).

1.3

This Standard applies to (a) rapid-start straight lamps, with a medium bipin base, 1200 mm (48 in) nominal overall length, and a rated wattage of 28 W or more; (b) rapid-start U-shaped lamps, with a medium bipin base, between 560 mm and 635 mm (22-25 in) nominal overall length, and a rated wattage of 28 W or more; (c) rapid-start lamps, commonly referred to as high-output lamps, with a recessed double-contact base, 2400 mm (96 in) nominal overall length, and 0.8 A nominal as defined in ANSI Stand ard C78.1; and (d) instant-start lamps, commonly referred to as slimline lamps, with a single-pin base, 2400 mm (96 in) nominal overall length, and a rated wattage of 52 W or more, as defined in ANSI Standard C78.3.

1.4

This Standard does not apply to lamps designed and marketed for the following nongeneral applications: (a) lamps designed to promote plant growth; (b) lamps specifically designed for cold temperature application; (c) coloured lamps; (d) lamps designed to be impact-resistant; (e) reflector or aperture lamps; (f) lamps designed for use in reprographic equipment; (g) lamps designed to produce radiation primarily in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum; and (h) lamps with a CRI of 82 or greater.
