1. Scope

1.1 This Standard applies to motor-operated liquid pump units, for use in nonhazardous, indoor, outdoor (exposed), and submerged locations, and designed to be used in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.

1.2 This Standard applies to(a) pumps for either permanent or cord-connection to the source of supply;(b) cord- and plug-connected pumps; and(c) component type pump units intended to be built into equipment covered by another standard of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part II.

1.3 This Standard does not apply to pumps for hazardous locations or pumps required to handle flammable liquids such as gasoline pumps.

1.4 Clauses 1 to 6 are general in nature and apply to all motor-operated liquid pump units. They are supplemented and amended by additional clauses applying to specific types of pumps, as follows:(a) Clause 7 - submersible pumps;(b) Clause 8 - cord- and plug-connected poolside pumps;(c) Clause 9 - insulated wet end pumps; and(d) Clause 10 - extra-low-voltage recreational vehicle pumps.
