Organic substances from five different sources were effectively removed from water by coagulation. Effectiveness was related to coagulant dosage relative to concentration and type of organic matter present and inorganic composition of the water. Insoluble organoaluminum precipitates, total organic carbon, chlorination, trihalomethane formation potential, and softening are discussed. Includes 36 references, tables, figures.
