Full Description

Today's water treatment plants and storage facilities are undergoing increasingrates of corrosion. With unprecedented amounts of money to be spent onAmerica's infrastructure, the need to understand and reduce the effects ofcorrosion is paramount. While the use of state of the art technologies in watertreatment facilities benefits the communities in which the facilities are located, they in turn bring with them inherent issues such as accelerated corrosion, concrete erosion, corrosive gasses and acidic environments. To avoid thedeterioration of the drinking water's organoleptic quality, taste and odor issuesneed to be addressed throughout the treatment and distribution/storage systems.Understanding corrosion within America's public water supply and the causesbehind it is the first step towards a solution. New technologies incorporatingprotective coatings, cathodic protection and metallic alloys will becomenecessary to maintain the public's confidence in the water treatment and storageprocess. Includes 5 references, figures.
