This paper discusses watershed protection measures used in the midwestern states of Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa. These states have several similar geographical characteristics that necessitates an approach to watershed protection that is different than many other areas of the United States. State programs for watershed protection and measures implemented by water utilities are discussed in the paper. This paper concentrates on watershed protection related to surface waters that are used as public water supplies.
