Recent studies suggest that formation of siderite is critical for the formation of highly protective, corrosion-resistant scales in water distribution pipes. Conditions that tend to hinder siderite formation lead to higher corrosion rates and nonuniform, thick scales. Includes 36 references, tables, figures.
