Standard water industry tools, such as supervisorycontrol and data acquisition and modeling programs, collect and store data that are currently unrelated totime and space. With a new tool, geospatial time-seriesmanagement (GTSM), water managers can consideranything that moves or changes through time, such asrainfall, reservoir levels, treatment flows, and naturalstream flow. GTSM transforms data into a predictivedecision-making tool by translating the informationinto the correct units and format to operate within asingle geographic information system-driven resource.This delivers time-varying, location-specific datainstantaneously to all staff, resulting in improved decision-making.With GTSM, water managers can help offset the lossof institutional knowledge supplied by now-retiring experiencedemployees, thereby maximizing technologyinvestments.
