AT-2803 -- Effect of Nonuniform Flux on the Temperature Profiles in Orthotropic Solids
Conference Proceeding by ASHRAE, 1984

The nonsteady temperature distribution is solved for different target solids that are being heated by nonuniform flux and are simultaneously losing heat by convection and radiation to the surroundings at the exposed target surface.
The solution is determined by use of successive finite transforms for the coordinate parameters and Laplace transforms for the time parameter.
The general solution for each target solid is given for any type of distribution of target energy rate per unit area. In addition, an experimental target energy rate per unit area is considered, and the temperature field is shown.
The temperature is plotted versus a dimensionless coordinate for two cases:
Different materials at the same film coefficientOne material at different values of film coefficients. The steadystate temperature also is plotted for different materials.Citation: ASHRAE Transactions, 1984, vol. 90, pt. 1A, Atlanta, GA
