HI-85-41-5 -- Parallel Flow Chiller-Heater
Conference Proceeding by ASHRAE, 1985
M. Fallek
Air conditioning costs for large buildings have risen substantially over the past several years and are expected to continue this trend as a result of the high cost of constructing new electric plants. Newly developed, high-efficiency absorption chillers, which utilize natural gas, generating exhaust heat or steam as an energy source, now compete with electric centrifugal chillers to reduce owner's energy costs. The coefficient of performance for these units rates as high as 1.21 for the two-stage steam machine which consumes only 9 .9 pounds of steam per ton-hour of operation at full load.
