Why is degrees of freedom (DOF) analysis ignored in the HVAC industry? Evaluating the control DOF is a necessary step, the author writes, when engineers design process control systems in the chemical process industry. This article reviews the process of calculating the DOF and applies it to an air-handling system, explaining its ease of application and how it benefits the design process.
