ASA S2.14-1973 (R2001) [ Withdrawn ] American National Standard Methods for Specifying the Performance of Shock Machines

standard by American National Standards of the Acoustical Society of America, 01/01/1973

Full Description

Scope. The shock machines considered here are only those employed for diagnostic testing and for demonstration orevaluation of the effect of shock conditions representative of use environment. Machines employed for metal working, forming, etc., are specifically excluded. Several techniques for generating the desired shock motion are discussed. Two basic types ofpulse shock machines are considered: those which provide the shock by a controlled reduction of the velocity of the testspecimen (deceleration or impact), and those which apply the shock by a controlled increase in the specimen velocity(acceleration or impulse). A vibration machine employed to generate controlled transient vibratory shocks and some pulseshocks is also discussed. Machines presently employed to provide empirical service shock conditions are classified as"controlled-operation machines."

Purpose. The purpose of this standard is to provide specification guidance covering the characteristics of shock machines. It isintended to ensure that the potential user of a particular shock machine is provided with an adequate description of thecharacteristics of the machine.
